Instead of using wood products to furnish your home, why not try bamboo products instead? Unlike wood, bamboo is a renewable resource that grows fast and is abundant in the tropics of Asia. Believe it or not, bamboo is commonly used to create homes, stylish furniture, flooring, blinds, and trendy decorations.

Since bamboo is easy to obtain, decorating your home with it is rather inexpensive. Also, by using bamboo decorations and encouraging others to do so as well, you are saving the forest and the animals that live in them.

Not only will bamboo decorations aid slow-growing hardwood species, but they will give your home an exotic feel. Here are some ideas as to how you can use bamboo.

1.  Asian Furniture Store

If you do some research, you should be able to find at least one local Asian furniture store. At these stores, you will find bamboo furniture and gorgeous, unique decor. If you cannot find a store nearby, you might be able to find bamboo furniture at Crate and Barrel or your local Target. You can also locate bamboo furniture online at  BaliBambooCreations.com and Overstock.com.

There is bamboo furniture that can be used in living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and even dining rooms. And, of course, if you have bamboo furniture, it is an absolute must that you get matching bamboo blinds as well.

If you decide on bamboo window blinds, be aware that these blinds are typically not efficient when it comes to blocking light. If you do want blinds that darken a room, buy and install bamboo shades or blinds that are especially made to filter light.

2.  Bamboo Flooring

Try buying and installing bamboo flooring instead of expensive hardwood flooring. Although bamboo may sound less sturdy than wood, it is actually stronger than most species of hardwood. In hot weather and humidity, bamboo flooring is less likely to shift than hardwood flooring.

Believe it or not, some bamboo species are harder than maple. A few species even have a Janka hardness rating that is double the ranking of red oak. Not only is bamboo flooring hard, it is also resilient to moisture; therefore, you can install bamboo flooring in the kitchen and the bathroom.

3.  Bamboo Accessories

Just about every home has planters and picture frames. Instead of using wooden planters and wooden picture frames, you could use bamboo planters and frames instead. In fact, there are many other home accessories that are made out of bamboo including vases.

When it comes to bamboo accessories, you have a lot of room to be picky. Not only are there plenty of bamboo accessories, but they are inexpensive when compared to their wooden counterparts. Less expensive…but definitely more stylish and longer long-lasting.
