Egg Cartons

Leftover egg cartons, what can you do with them? First, if you know someone who has laying hens, offer the cartons to them. Second, save a couple for at-home craft projects; a multitude of items can be made with them. Third, ask at your local library, elementary school, or preschool if anyone would use them for craft projects.
Junk Mail

If your mailbox receives the typical amount of junk mail, you may have some opportunities to reuse and recycle. Instead of just placing flyers and ads in the recycling bin, look to see if any are printed single-sided. These sheets of paper can be used for grocery or to-do lists. Cut them into smaller squares and use as a homemade memo pad.
Paper Towels

Another way to reduce the amount of disposable items being used in your home is by not leaving the paper towel roll on the counter. Instead, keep an old towel or rag nearby. When there's a spill, reach for the towel, which can be washed and reused. Sure, paper towels may be useful at times, but if you keep them out of sight, they won't be used when a dishtowel will suffice.
Disposable Dishes?
by Michele February 4th, 2011 | 30 Second Tip
Whether you're preparing for Sunday's big game, a Valentine's celebration, or a birthday party, there are simple ways to keep these celebrations eco-friendly. The biggest change would be to use regular dishes instead of disposable. While this means that there will be plates, cups, and silverware to wash after the party, this will eliminate a bag (or bags) filled with trash.
Washcloths for Dishes
by Michele January 21st, 2011 | 30 Second Tip
Reducing the amount of disposable items in your house starts with small steps. For a first step, stop using sponges to handwash dishes. Even though you may need to replace them only once or twice a month, it still adds to your garbage. Instead, purchase washcloths for the kitchen. You will get years of use before they are worn and need to be replaced.
