Declutter for New Year
I have a list of resolutions that I have yet to fulfill this year, and “declutter” tops my list. You know, I was a pack rat last year. I loved to keep assorted stuff that I thought might be of good use someday…but then they all ended up cluttering my room and my desk.
I’m going to use of one of the 3 Rs now which is “Reduce”. I have to reduce clutter in my home because I want to start my New Year right. Although decluttering your home seems like a boring and tiring thing to do, trust me, you’ll feel better afterward because your home will look more organized and homey.
Now, you may be thinking how to start decluttering. First, decide which part of the house you want to declutter first. I started in my room because I think it needed more decluttering than any part of the house. Then, once you have chosen a specific part of the house where you want to start, declutter one area at a time. Don’t get too excited, and start decluttering all the areas of the room at one time…you’ll end up tiring yourself without finishing even a single area.
You can declutter your closet first. Sort your things, and decide which ones you still are using and which ones you are not. You even can label the things you want to keep, throw, or give away. If you have clothes that were not used for the past six months, consider donating them to charity or give them to people you think might get better use out of them.
Again, I have to emphasize on taking one area at a time when decluttering. Can you imagine yourself working the entire basement, attic or any room of the house and giving up because you don’t know what to do because it looked messier and more cluttered than before? So, start in one area, declutter it, keep what is necessary, throw or donate what’s not, then proceed to the next area.
Not only decluttering makes your home look organized, but it can also make you and your whole family happy. After all, who doesn’t want to live in a clean, organized and clutter-free home?
