Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts

December 23rd, 2008 by Valerie Mae Diola

Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and exchanging gifts. But can you be eco-friendly this Christmas season? The answer is yes. You can be eco-friendly by giving eco-friendly gifts. Below are some eco-friendly gift ideas and some products I like to give and also receive.

Recycled Beaded Jewelries

Who says gifts should be brand new? If you are creative, there are lots of gifts you can still recycle like beaded jewelries. I once had a beading-hobby-turned-business. I unstrung all my unsold beaded jewelries and reused the beads to make new jewelries. All my friends were so happy when I gave them my beaded jewelries as my Christmas presents for them. I especially like native and natural materials like shells, pearls, nuts and wood beads. You even can put the beaded jewelries in a nice box to make your gifts presentable.

Eco-friendly Statement Tees or Bags

While browsing some online stores, I saw a 100% organic cotton canvas bag with a “Recycle” logo all over it at piperlime.com. The bag is simple but shows how eco-friendly you are. This bag is already in my Christmas wish list; I hope somebody will give me this bag as a Christmas present. Otherwise, I will buy this bag for myself. There are also t-shirts from other stores that speak about loving Mother Earth. I’m sure your friends would love to receive these cool shirts – trendy and chic yet reminds people to keep our planet beautiful.

Reusable Shopping Bags

Don’t you know that every minute our planet uses up a million plastic bags? I know there are still people who will reuse these plastic bags, but most of them will just throw the plastic bags away. So, I think giving a reusable shopping bag as a Christmas gift can make a not-so-eco-friendly person become eco-friendly like you, too.

Now, don’t be shy to show off you eco-friendly nature. Spread your love with Mother Earth. Give something that is valuable not only to the receiver but also to the environment, too. Happy Holidays, everyone! Remember to be green this Christmas!
