For me, being eco-friendly does not mean only buying or using eco-friendly products that are available in the market, it also means doing every possible thing to help the environment. I have made a handy checklist for you to know how eco-friendly you are:
1. Are you consuming less?
Be it in energy or water consumption, consuming less is very important. Turn off appliances that are not in use, and save water, if possible. Consuming less, for me, also means spending less and reusing more. When my husband and I would like to buy something from a nearby grocery store, we just walk instead of using the car. Walking is good for the heart, and not using the car is good for our budget because we can consume less gas and save extra money.
2. Are you practicing the 3 Rs?
Try reducing, reusing and recycling. It’s fun and sometimes you don’t even know you’re practicing them, like borrowing books instead of buying new ones, turning off the television after watching or even recycling household items into something that can be used.
I have a nice container at home with lots of beads and other materials for my crafts. At first look, you would think it’s really a new container, but it’s actually just a container of a powdered juice drink I bought from a local grocery store. I just washed it, took off the labels and reused it.
3. Are you disposing your waste properly?
Don’t throw your garbage anywhere. Even a tiny candy wrapper can cause harm to the environment when not disposed properly. If you throw your garbage anywhere, it would pile up, could clog drainage and can cause flooding during rainy days.
If you answered “Yes” to all 3 questions, then no doubt you are truly as eco-friendly as you think you are. Keep it up, and continue to be an inspiration to others.
