Are there such things as organic clothing? Yes, there are! They are those clothing itmes made from hemp and organic cotton.

These clothing items can help the environment because organic cotton comes from cotton crops that don’t grow with the use of pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals. According to research, half of all the world’s fiber needs are provided by cotton. Cotton is a chemically-dependent crop, and ten percent of all pesticides and agricultural chemicals are sprayed on cotton crops. These pesticides and chemicals are not good for the environment and for the air we breathe. So, by buying even just a single shirt made from organic cotton can help. Not only you are helping the environment but also those workers or farmers who grow and harvest the organic cotton. These workers or farmers don’t inhale or ingest toxic chemicals while harvesting because as I’ve said, organic cotton is pesticide-free.

Clothing made from hemp can help the environment as well because hemp is made of natural fibers. Hemp canbe made into canvass and textiles as well as papers. Don’t you know that clothing made from natural fibers are softer, more comfortable, more breathable and much better than synthetic ones? Hemp requires few or no pesticides and harmful chemicals, thus making hemp environment-friendly.

Now, who says going organic can’t be fashionable? There are jeans, shirts, dresses and even baby clothes that are made of organic cotton or hemp. So, the next time you shop, look not only at the brand but the materials as well.

Although organic clothing rarely can be seen in stores, if you see one, please buy it to show your care for the environment. Remember, be an eco-friendly fashionista!
