According to the Global Wildlife Fund, the rate of global fishing is currently 2.5 times larger than what the oceans can sustain. If not controlled, this can lead to a disruption in ocean eco-systems, and may change the environment of our oceans forever. One way you can protect the ocean’s fish diversity is by only eating sustainably caught fish. The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch site provides an interactive list to find out which fish are safe to eat. When you are out to eat, simply text the word “FISH” and the name of the fish to 30644, the Blue Ocean Institute’s Fish Phone, and you will get a message back telling you whether the fish is acceptable to order.
