Sports Teams — Environmental Efforts

by Jessica B. May 15th, 2012 | Environmental News
Sports events and green practices aren’t two things you automatically link together. Tailgating, beer drinking, and eating fast food are all behaviors that tend to generate a lot of waste. This is starting to change. National sports teams are working hard with their local communities to develop best practices and to lead by example.

Even though milk and juice cartons are recyclable, they’re usually made from 85% paper and 15% polymer; not all recycling initiative accept such cartons, as they are wax-lined and considered paperboard.

However, you needn’t toss them out in the trash without reusing them at least once. One of the more interesting craft projects that can be accomplished with juice or milk cartons is the construction of a birdhouse. Ensure the top of the carton is closed, and cut a hole in the side so that birds can enter and exit the birdhouse. The hole can be big or small depending
