Most kids doesn’t know how important saving Mother Earth is yet. So, it is your role to let them know how to love the environment in their own way.
As always, I love the 3Rs. So, also teach your kids how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
- When your kids are taking a shower, tell them to reduce water consumption by turning off the shower while shampooing.
- Teach your kids to donate their old toys to charity so that other less fortunate children can reuse them.
- Show your kids how to recycle by teaching them to separate trash and use the recycle bin.
- Instead of playing video games for leisure, tell your kids to help you plant something in the garden.
- Teach your kids to conserve energy. Always remind them to unplug appliances after use, or tell them to turn off the light when they don’t need it.
- Teach them to be creative by showing them how to recycle their old things. I remember when we were little, my sisters and I were fond of recycling our old notebooks by taking off the spring and compiling all the unused pages into a “new” notebook. If your kids are creative, instead of putting the notebook’s spring back, they can sew the pages.
- In my country, I noticed most kids aren’t aware of the problem it could bring to the environment when they throw their candy wrappers anywhere. So, tell your kids that Mother Earth will be glad if they will not litter anywhere. Teach your kids that if they’re in public places and trash bins are not available, keep the wrappers in their pockets instead and throw them in the bin when they get home.
When teaching your kids these simple rules, always remember not to be tough; don’t make them feel like they’re in the military. Instead, teach them in a fun way and always give motivating remarks when they did something for the environment. Your patience and constant reminding could make your youngsters grow up as eco-friendly and Mother Earth lovers.
