Though some you may be doubting this, it’s not too late! We can still change the world and save it from being polluted, wasted, and destroyed.
I believe that one of the most important things that one can do is ingrain good living habits into the children of the time. If a child is not encouraged to fold up a cereal box and put it in the paper recycling bin rather than just throw it in the trash, then he most likely will continue to throw boxes in the trash! Teaching kids how to be green and live a healthier lifestyle is imperative because their habits will affect our future and the futures of generations to come. People always say that high schools and colleges are in charge of teaching the future leaders of the world or the people who will some day be in charge of their respective countries. Why not apply this logic to the environment as well?
In order to educate children to be more environmentally friendly, we have to teach them good habits. Adults should make sure that they recycle, reuse, and reduce– because children watch and copy their guardians! Another way to teach children is to play games with them that allow them to see how recycling can be fun and rewarding. If your state gives cash back for recycling bottles and cans, allow your child to put the recyclables in the machine and collect the change.
I also found a great website to teach kids about the “three Rs.” There’s a very fun game on the site in which items travel down conveyor belts, and you have to try to “recycle, reuse, and reduce” by clicking on them. If you don’t click them on time, the items fall into the trash, oh no! I really enjoyed playing this game. At the end of the time segment, the game tells you what items you recycled, reused, and reduced. It’s a ton of fun, and your children will enjoy it!
